Designed by Vico Magistretti in 1969 and produced by Artemide (Italy) throughout the 1970’s we have this Model Arcadia (100) low table. The rectangular coffee table was made from glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP) using a compression moulding system under very high pressure and temperatures which produces a cured material that was strong, weather and heat resistant. The ‘S’ moulded shape of the table legs gives the material high structural stability without the need for extraneous framing or internal support allowing Magistretti to realise his design. This is an example of his principle of ‘resistance by form’ (resistenza per forma). The table is in very good condition with only light surface marks and has not discoloured from its original ivory colour.
