Designed by Svend Aage Holm-Sørensen we have a pair of large table lamps produced by Holm Sorensen & Co in Denmark in the 1950’s. Model number 4133. The lamps feature thick amber and yellow glass segments held within a black steel geometrical framework. The glass blocks and discs are smooth on one side and rippled on the other so that the light is refracted as it passes through. The glass inserts are secured with small grub screws from underneath and are held securely. Each lamp is in excellent and original condition. The wooden bases have their original black finish, again in excellent condition.
Both lights have been completely re-wired. They feature new black plastic lamp holders with a rocker switch on the side and will take a regular ES (screw) bulb. The lamp holders each have a pair of wide shade rings which is the most secure means of holding the lamp shade firmly. We have replaced the cable with double insulated 2 core flat (oval) cable with black braided outer sleeve and fitted cord grips under the lamp bases. The lamp holders themselves have a locking mechanism so they cannot be accidentally unscrewed when changing the bulb. Lastly we have fitted the lamps with new rectangular linen shades which complement the geometric form of the lights and are included.
Born in 1913 in Denmark Svend Aage Holm-Sørensen is highly regarded for his lighting designs. The earlier designs, like these lamps, feature beautifully executed and welded metal work with coloured hand blown glass.
